4 Great Reasons to Care for Your Teeth

A+ A- A Main Content Family playing and smiling

Dental problems aren't just for adults. Issues like yellow teeth, bad breath, and tooth decay can also occur in children if the teeth aren't being cared for. Taking preventative measures like daily brushing and flossing will keep your teeth healthy and prevent expensive dental treatments in the future.

Below are four reasons to start caring for your teeth properly now:

  1. A Whiter, Straighter Smile

When your teeth are healthy, your smile looks bright and healthy as well! The most common reason why a white smile starts to dull is because of wine and coffee consumption. If your teeth have begun to yellow over time, a round of teeth whitening can restore your teeth back to sparkly white!

  2. Fresh Breath
Certain foods and times of the day will always cause bad breath, but this is quickly taken care of by brushing your teeth. If you aren't keeping up with your dental hygiene, this bad breath can become chronic. To keep your breath fresh, make sure you're brushing, flossing, and getting regular dental cleanings.
  3. Healthy Gums
Gum disease affects your mouth, but it also puts a strain on your immune system. Some research has indicated that gum disease has also been linked to cardiovascular disease. Like the other problems on this list, gum disease can be controlled with daily flossing and brushing!
  4. Healthy Teeth
A build-up of cavity-causing bacteria in the mouth is harmful to your mouth and destroys your teeth. When the sugars and starches on the teeth are allowed to be in contact with the teeth for very long, they will combine with the bacteria in the mouth to form plaque. If plaque isn't brushed away, it can lead to tooth decay and dental cavities.

As illustrated above, the best thing you can do for your teeth is to brush at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and visit your general dentist every six months for a dental cleaning and an exam!

If you or a family member displays misaligned teeth, jaw pain, trouble eating or even breathing, schedule a consult to day to see if Orthodontics Of The Black Hills can help.
