The Different Types of Dental Braces

The secret behind a bright and confident smile is perfect teeth! If your teeth are straight and perfectly aligned, you won’t think twice before laughing out loud, but if your teeth are crooked or misaligned, you may feel self-conscious.

But don’t worry. Thanks to orthodontics, you can straighten your teeth and get the perfect smile. Braces can help improve the alignment of teeth, the overall appearance of your face, and of course, improve your smile!

Now, when you go to the dentist, they’ll ask you which type of braces you want. There are different types of braces, and familiarizing yourself with each type will help you decide which type you should opt for.

Metal Braces

These are the traditional types of braces that are the most common. Metal braces are highly effective when it comes to improving the alignment of the teeth. The best thing about these types of braces is that they’re the cheapest option available today. They’re also the most noticeable type, so they may make you self-conscious.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are very similar to metal braces in shape and size. The only thing that makes ceramic braces better than metal braces is the color. Ceramic braces are white to off-white, allowing them to blend with the natural color of teeth, making them less noticeable. They’re costlier and require more care.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are exactly like metal braces in shape, size, and material, but they’re attached to the inner side of the teeth instead of the front; as a result, they can’t be seen. However, they’re not as effective as metal braces and are also more uncomfortable and difficult to clean.

Self-Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces are similar in appearance to metal braces, but instead of being attached by a wire, they’ve got a clip that’s attached to the teeth. They’re quite effective but more expensive than metal braces.

Clear aligners

Clear aligners are quite different from all other types of braces. They don’t feature wires and brackets. Instead, they’re plastic aligners that you can wear over your teeth. They’re invisible, so you can be most comfortable wearing them. You’ll need to change them every 2 to 3 weeks, and it takes about 18 to 30 trays throughout the course of treatment to produce the desired effect.
